Description
Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary who played a central role in Fidel Castro’s Cuban Revolution of 1959, becoming one of the most recognizable and contested political figures of the 20th century. A trained physician who gave up medicine for armed revolution, Guevara went on after Cuba to attempt to foment uprisings across Africa and South America before being captured and executed in Bolivia in 1967 at age 39. Alberto Korda’s 1960 photograph of Guevara — reproduced on posters, t-shirts, and murals worldwide — has become the most reproduced image in the history of photography and remains a potent symbol for movements of liberation and resistance around the world.
